Logistics Trainee - Job Description
This position is a training position involved in learning the role and procedures of Logistics in order to assist the department in achieving a variety of tasks related to shipping and receiving and inventory management. This position will be reporting to the Supply Chain Manager.
Areas of Responsibilities - This position will be responsible for the following essential duties:
1. Shipping / Storage Areas
- Maintain a sufficient inventory of shipping supplies
- Responsible for keeping the shipping and inventory storage areas clean and orderly and maintained as a safe work area for all employees
- Assist with inventory counts and audits as required
- Prepare all material and equipment in appropriate packaging for shipping
- Prepare Domestic & International Waybills and customs documentation
- Call local couriers for pickup arrangements
- Deliver equipment and material to various locations within the City
- Trace shipments and confirm delivery
- Investigate shipment issues and damages
- Receive and record all shipments and inspect for content and condition of packaging
- Distribute received items to their appropriate holding / storage areas
1. Administrative
- Assist in researching shipping methods and options
- Maintain a Shipment Tracking Log for incoming and outgoing shipments
- Maintain an accurate filing system for all documentation
- Enter shipments (incoming and outgoing) into Shipping Database
- Maintain a working knowledge of local, national and international outgoing and incoming carriers (air and surface)
- Correspond by phone, email or in writing with customs brokers on matters related to international shipments
- Tracking retail and non-retail inventory when it leaves the premises by staff
- Process and track RMA's as directed
- Correspond & maintain relationships with SSi agents/suppliers
2. Purchasing
- When required, purchase on behalf of company, and/or pick-up equipment or materials from various locations within the City.
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Other duties as required
Your role is interactive and you will be dealing with people in person, via email and over the phone daily. Excellent communication skills and people skills is vital.
Job Specifications and Requirements:
- College OR High School diploma OR a combination of experience and education and training equivalent to shipping and receiving
- Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications
- Proven competency in working with computers and software applications
- Organized and can work under deadlines where required
- Ability to plan and organize one's own activities independently
- Knowledge of shipping and receiving and related logistics duties desirable
- Current NWT Driver's license with a clean driving record
- Some overnight travel outside Yellowknife but within the NWT may be required
- Occasional on call weekend duties may apply
- Be able to lift and safely carry boxes and objects of a variety shapes, sizes and weight
- Safety training with PPE, WHMIS, TDG and First-Aid desirable
- Detail oriented, organized and proactive
